For the last 3 years, the NFL has teamed up with the Bob Woodruff Foundation, through its Salute to Service initiative, to support programs that help our veterans grow connections in their communities & build healthy lifestyles. With NFL support, the Bob Woodruff Foundation invests in programs that improve veteran and caregiver health and wellness, and improve veteran and family transition into civilian communities.
In that spirit, we partnered to fund the creation of the first-ever USA Wheelchair Football League (USAWFL), run by Move United, now approaching its second season. The League is the first of its kind football league for adults with disabilities, including wounded veterans, to reach their highest potential through a competitive, fast-paced, team sport. It’s helped players like Marine veteran Brad Lang and Marine veteran Bart Salgado find new challenges, a new purpose, and a new community after service.
The League more than doubled its reach for the 2021 season, expanding from four to nine teams in Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; Kansas City, MO; Phoenix, AZ; Birmingham, AL; Buffalo, NY; Cleveland, OH; Tampa, FL; and New Orleans, LA.
Congratulations to the 2021 USA Wheelchair Football Champions, the LA Rams! We were honored to host former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III and his family, as well as Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Famers Will Shields and Bobby Bell, who came out to support the incredible adaptive athletes.

During our 15th Annual Stand Up for Heroes, we showcased the healing power of adaptive sports through a video featuring Move United's USA Wheelchair Football League, made possible by our NFL-BWF Salute To Service partnership.
